The Hartsville Red Fox  football bounced back from  a disappointing loss last  week in a big way, by dominating  the Manning Monarchs  37-0 in action this  past Friday at Billy Seigler  Field. The defensive domination  showed up immediately  as the Foxes stuffed  the first and forced a fumble  on the 2nd play, recovering  it on the Manning 25  yd. line. Quickly the Foxes  marched for the first score  a 3 yd. run by Shy  McPhail. Jones Tinsley  added the PAT and the  Foxes led 7-0 at the 8:17  mark of the 1st quarter.  After forcing a 3 and out,  the Foxes struck again on a  31 yd. run by Aryon Dudley.  Tinsley’s PAT was good  and the Foxes led 14-0 at  the 4:36 mark.

After an exchange of

Ray Pogue -#79

Offensive Player of the Week

punts by both teams, the  Red Fox defense had Manning  backed up deep in  their own territory. Forcing  the Monarchs to punt  again, the Red Fox offense  took over on Manning's 31  yd. line. On the 2nd play  Aryon Dudley scored from  28 yds. out behind some  great blocking on the offensive  line. The PAT was no  good and the Foxes took a  20-0 lead in the locker  room at the end of the half.

Shy Phillips -#1

Defensive Player of the Week

With Hartsville receiving  the 2nd half kickoff, the  offense put together a  good drive culminating in a  nice 29 yd. run by Shy  McPhail behind great blocking  once again by the line.  The PAT by Tinsley was  good making the score 27-0 at the 5:51 mark of the  3rd quarter. The key play in  this drive was a 20 yd.  completion from Matt  Lynch to Austin Morris on a  2nd and 14 play to keep the  drive alive. Once again the  Foxes defense dominated  forcing another punt. This  time Austin Morris broke  through the line and  blocked the punt giving the  offense the ball on the  Monarch 19 yd. line. The  Foxes moved into field goal  range and Jones Tinsley  converted a 22 yd. kick  making it 30-0 with 2:13 left  in the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th quarter,  defense again ruled as the  Foxes used Shy Phillips  interception return deep in  Manning territory, to score  the final points of the game  on Tikwan Smith’s 3 yd.  run. The PAT was good and  at the 8:32 mark the game  was officially a blowout and  the Foxes played reserves  the rest of the way. Final  stats told the dominating  defensive effort, as the  Monarchs finished with a  total offense of 85 yds.  Hartsville's offense did not  have big numbers, mainly  because of great field position  they enjoyed thanks to  the defense. The Foxes finished  with 39 yards on 3-7  passing and 209 yds. rushing  on 42 attempts, for a  total of 248 yds. of offense.

Shug’s Smokehouse  players of the game were  Ray Pogue on offense for  his excellent blocking on  the line and Shy Phillips on  defense for his excellent  play from his cornerback  spot, including a big interception.

Next week the Foxes  travel to Lakewood for a  7:30 kickoff. With a record  of 7-1, 2-1 in the conference,  the Foxes will be trying  to secure a spot in the  playoffs with only 2 weeks  to go. Hope to see you at  the game.
